      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Anne Gros's 1996 Richebourg Grand Cru is still remarkably primary, offering up aromas of cassis, bloody duck, spices and dark berries, framed by a generous application of toasty new oak. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, firm and compact, with a chassis of fine but abundant tannin that makes the 1996 even tighter-knit than even the decidedly structural 1993 that preceded it. Given the high acids of the vintage and this Richebourg's extremely extracted style, it's anyone's guess as to when it will eventually be ready to drink, but it's a fine effort in its somewhat austere style.
      • John Gilman: Along with the Méo-Camuzet ’96, this is the Richebourg of the vintage in my book. The Anne Gros is a stunning young wine, offering up notes of ripe plums, chocolate, game, violets, minerals, still just a hint of the stems and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and displays outstanding flavor intensity without undue weight, fine focus, and terrific length on the complex, tangy finish. This wine has quite modest tannin levels, but will age gracefully for decades on its sound acids and stunning balance. Really a terrific young wine.

      Producer Information

Domaine Anne Gros is a wine producer based in the village of Vosne-Romanée, in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The estate produces a range of wines from local and neighboring appellations across both the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grape varieties. The domaine has a total of 6.5 hectares (16 acres) across nine appellations, including parcels in the Grand Cru vineyards of Clos Vougeot, Échezeaux and Richebourg. Anne Gros also makes village-level Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny wines, as well as generic Bourgogne rouge and Bourgogne blanc wines. The vines are farmed according to biodynamic principles. Red grapes are vinified in epoxy-lined cement tanks, with whites in stainless steel. Barrel-aging typically lasts around 16 months with 80 percent new oak for Grand Crus, 50 percent for village wines and 30 percent for regional wines. The Bourgogne blanc is aged for 12 months in large-format (500 liter) oak barrels of which around 30 percent are new oak. Anne Gros is part of an extensive winemaking family in the area and joined her father François at the family estate in 1988. The domaine was named Domaine Anne et François Gros until 1995 and is now simply Domaine Anne Gros. The winery holdings also include two homestays in both Vosne-Romanée (La Colombière) and nearby Beaune (Le Patio). In 2008, with her winegrower partner, Anne also established Domaine Anne Gros & Jean-Paul Tollot at Cazelles in Minervois. Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur, Domaine Michel Gros, and Domaine A.-F. Gros are all run by Gros' cousins – the latter, run by Anne-Françoise Gros, is easily confused with Domaine Anne Gros.
