        Producer Information

Château Fourcas Hosten is a French wine estate situated in the Haut-Médoc district of Bordeaux. The château focuses on the production of Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blends from its 47 hectares (116 acres) of vineyards in the heart of Listrac-Médoc. Nearby estates include Château Chasse-Spleen, some four kilometers (2.5 miles) due east, in the neighboring Moulis-en-Medoc appellation which, along with Listrac-Médoc, lies to the west of the land between northern Margaux and southern Saint-Julien. Just north of Listrac lies the hamlet and lieu-dit of Le Fourcas. The Fourcas Hosten estate can trace its history back to 1810, when Mr Hosten sold his vineyard holdings to the Saint Affrique family, who established Château Fourcas Hosten. A number of properties also incorporate the Fourcas name, including Fourcas-Dupré (actually in Le Fourcas) and Hosten's neighbor to the northwestin northern Listrac, Fourcas-Borie (formerly Fourcas-Dumont). Fourcas Hosten's vineyards cover two distinct areas, one being in the Le Fourcas area of gravelly soil, which provides ideal growing conditions for the château's Cabernet Sauvignon vines while the remaining vineyards sit atop chalky, clay-rich soils that are perfect for the cultivation of the estate's Merlot grapes. Alongside the red varieties, from arounf 2010 the estate also began planting Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris and Semillon for white wine production. In 2020, the Fourcas Hosten's white wine vineyards were certified organic with the red varieties being certified in 2021. The main wine, or so-called "grand vin", and the second wine – Les Cèdres d'Hosten – are both red wine blends dominated by Merlot and supplemented by smaller quantities of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes. The grand vin is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, while much of Les Cèdres d'Hosten spends approximately 12 months in wooden and concrete tanks, with just 10 percent aged in two-year-old French oak barrels. The estate released its inaugural Château Fourcas Hosten blanc in 2014. This white wine is predominantly Sauvignon Blanc, with a small amount of Sauvignon Gris and Semillon. The vines that supply these grapes average nearly ten years old and are planted on two hectares (five acres) of clay and limestone soils. Harvest is carried out by hand and the wine is aged for around five months in French oak barrels. From 2006, Château Fourcas Hosten has been owned by Renaud and Laurent Momméja. Together, they have invested heavily in the renovation of the estate's wine production facilities and vineyard plots.
