      Producer Information

The history of the D.O. Rueda is inextricably linked to the Verdejo grape variety, and in 2002 Bodegas Naia decided to set up in La Seca, in the heart of Rueda, to make the most of the original Verdejo clone. La Seca is a town whose municipal territory is largely planted with vineyards. The exceptional climate and soil conditions and the imposing old vines make it an ideal place to produce some of the best white wines in the world. From the beginning, Bodegas Naia has relied on a selection of old vines of the autochthonous Verdejo grape and has always sought to produce wines with the authenticity that comes from rigorous work in the vineyard. This very vineyard has become the cornerstone of Bodegas Naia's winemaking. In such a short time, Naia has become a reference brand in the cultivation of the Verdejo grape. Naia takes its cue from the great white wines of the world, fresh wines, but also full-bodied, tasty and with character. The key to Bodegas Naia's work has been the selection of old vineyards, some dating back to before the phylloxera plague, with the autochthonous Verdejo grape variety. The winery has 23.5 hectares of its own vineyards, of which 20 hectares are over 40 years old and 2 hectares are young trellis-grown vines (15 years old). The rest are 35 year old cup grown Viura vines. Bodegas Naia works closely with local winemakers, with whom it establishes a close and ongoing relationship. These vineyards are between 80 and 130 years old. Among the numerous clones of the Verdejo grape variety currently in use, Bodegas Naia has chosen the original clone used to make the first wines in the area. The use of this clone, native to Rueda, allows us to extract the classic aromas of the Verdejo grape and differs from those that have appeared in this denomination of origin in recent decades. The character of the wines of Bodegas Naia is determined by the location of Rueda in an area with continental and Mediterranean influences.
