      Detailed Description

It has a very intense and dense ruby red color, with purple reflections in youth. The characteristic red Montepulciano fruit, particularly broad and mature, is in perfect balance with the rich spiciness of black pepper and licorice, and embellished with typical balsamic notes, of chocolate and tobacco. Producer Information

Nestled in the shadows of the Gran Sasso d’Italia near the town of Loreto Aprutino in Abruzzo, Torre dei Beati is quickly becoming a reference point for not only Abruzzese wines, but all Italian wines. Fausto Albanesi, winemaker and enologist at Torre dei Beati, has adeptly shepherded the vineyards since 1999 when he and his wife, Adriana, began producing wine on land inherited from Adriana’s father in the Vestina subregion of Abruzzo. Fausto nurtured the oldest Montepulciano vines, which were planted in 1972, and expanded the property to nearly 21ha while achieving organic certification for all of his vineyards, with the cold mountain air of the Gran Sasso (the highest peak in the Apennines) enveloping the vines and helping to ward off pests and disease. That mountain chill and significant diurnal variation endow Fausto’s wines with a vibrancy, balance, and freshness - while maintaining a tremendous density - that are alluring. With bottlings of Trebbiano, Pecorino, and Montepulciano, the wines of Torre dei Beati are a revelation and testament to the passion, skill, and dedication that Fausto possesses. The wines display an exceptional purity, and the deftness of hand with which Fausto creates them is readily apparent. Such gorgeous examples of Abruzzese wines are hard to come by, and typically much pricier - including those wines of Fausto’s neighbor, the iconic Valentini winery.
