Detailed Description
The Chapelle-Chambertin grand cru vineyard faces east on a well-drained, gentle slope on the lower hillside east of Chambertin-Clos de Bèze. It is said that the small Notre Dame de Bèze chapel on this site was intentionally burned in the 1830s so that the land could be planted to more vines. This wine comes from a 2.2-hectare (5-acre) plot covered with thin, stony, limestone soils, around the original La Chapelle vineyard; the vines were planted in 1947. The bouquet is disarmingly hedonistic, with hints of violets and honeysuckle layering the opulent, dark-cherry expression. The palate demonstrates quintessential elegance silk on velvet with delicious length to the dark fruit and earth flavors.
Reviews:
- Burghound: This is even riper yet the nose remains fresh and cool with dense and layered dark berry fruit, spice and soft earth aromas. There is excellent concentration to the extract-rich medium weight plus flavors that exhibit controlled power on the refined and palate coating finish. This balanced effort offers excellent length and a real sense of harmony.
- Vinous: The Chapelle Chambertin isn't ready to offer up all of its charms just yet. Tobacco, game, dark red fruit and smoke are some of the notes that open up in the glass, but the elements aren't fully put together yet. Today the 2011 is a bit rough around the edges, yet it nevertheless possesses considerable depth as well as personality.
