Distillery Information

Patrón is one of the best-selling premium Tequila brands in the United States. It began as a brand of Siete Leguas Tequila, produced at their distillery in Jalisco, Mexico. In 1989, the rights were sold to St. Marteen Spirits, though it continued to be distilled at Siete Leguas. The Patrón brand was so successful that St. Marteen Spirit changed title to the Patrón Spirits Company. The Tequila's popularity grew in the 1990s and expanded internationally to more markets, now being widely distributed across the world. In the early 2000s, Patrón began to re-image the brand as a premium spirit, something not readily associated with Tequila at the time. It introduced new varieties at a range of prices, began individually numbering bottles and, in 2002, moved all production to an independent, dedicated distillery in Atotonilco el Alto. Some of the most expensive bottles in the Patrón catalogue are barrel-aged Añejo Tequilas that are aged for extended periods in American and French oak. The Gran Patrón Burdeos is specifically finished in Brodeaux barriques after several years in oak. The distillery also uses a traditional tahona stone wheel to crush some of the Agave and has advertised its Roca Patrón label with the process.
