This Hors d'Age cognac from The LAst Drop Distillers was distilled in 1925 and almost lost to history. Hidden behind a hastily built wall in a cellar in the 1940s to protect it from advancing Nazi forces, this expression sat slowly maturing in an ex-Pineau des Charentes cask for almost 80 years. Bottled at 48.4% abv, it is presented in a stunning leather case with a 50ml miniature and a custom made wooden stopper. Just 182 bottles have been produced.

Detailed Description

The Last Drop folks are once again showing off their skills with acquiring incredibly rare spirits, and this time they've somehow got their hands on Cognac dating all the way back to 1925! This pre-Second World War Grande Champagne Cognac was distilled back in the middle of the '20s, and the cask was hidden behind a wall in a cellar during the Second World War. Many years later, the cask was discovered and bottled up with an outturn of only 182 bottles, alongside a 5cl miniature of the same liquid - so you can keep your full bottled sealed while still tasting the Cognac.

The Last Drop Distillers 1925 Hors d'Age Cognac Tasting Notes

Nose: A perfect balance between all its component parts, giving it a wonderful elegance and freshness. The nose and the palate are equally powerful and complex, and no single aroma or flavour dominates the others. It is perfect harmony in cognac.

Palate: The fruit (very ripe exotic fruits, such as mango, jackfruit, mangosteen and papaya) overlays mellow but powerful oak flavours which stop short of astringency. The almost explosive ‘rancio’ provides great length to the palate but is beautifully offset by the elegant acidity that brings a touch of lightness.

Finish: In the finish, we detect an unusual hint of ‘café au lait’, with a touch of English toffee, alongside oaky, orange peel, prune and nutty flavours.

Distillery Information

As the name suggests, The Last Drop specialises in top quality rare and unique spirits. Created in 2008 by industry veterans James Espey, Tom Jago and Peter Fleck, they can call on a wealth of experience from successful careers working with some of the largest spirits brands in the world such as Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, J&B and The Classic Malts as well as Baileys, Smirnoff and Malibu. Rather than retire, they’re putting their collective knowledge to good use and continuing to release award-winning spirits.
