Chateau Pipeau is a Grand Cru Saint-Emilion wine estate based in the commune of Saint-Laurent-des-Combes, some 3.5km (2.1 miles) southeast of Saint-Emilion town. The property is part of the family-run Vignobles Mestreguilhem group which includes Château Joinin in the Bordeaux appellation on the other side (south) of the Dordogne river to Saint-Emilion. Château Pipeau has been in the Mestreguilhem family since 1929 and produces a Merlot-dominant grand vin with small proportions (five percent each) of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate boasts 26 hectares (64 acres) of vineyard on the flat land north of the Dordogne river but just south (at the foot) of the Saint-Emilion plateau. The wines are fermented in concrete and stainless steel and aged in new French oak barriques. Annual production is around 140,000 bottles.
