      Detailed Description

Full-bodied, it's impressive for its balance, silky tannins and long finish.

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: Madame Leroy’s 1996 Mazis-Chambertin is a fine wine. The superb bouquet jumps from the glass in a complex blend of cassis, black cherries, grilled meats, dark soil tones, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very well-balanced, with a good core, fine mineral drive, moderate tannins and a long, new oaky and classy finish. I really like the style and shape of this bottling.
        • James Suckling: Thick, ripe and deceptively seductive, this beautiful wine mingles deftly made oak accents with wet earth, clean black fruit and mineral-laden character. Full-bodied, it's impressive for its balance, silky tannins and long finish.

        Producer Information

Domaine d'Auvenay is a small Burgundian wine estate based in Saint-Romain. It is the third entity of the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and previously been run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004. Estate-grown village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced under the d'Auvenay label. There are only 4 hectares (10 acres) of vines, compared with the 22ha (54 acres) at Domaine Leroy, but these holdings include plots in the Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyards, as well as in a small handful of premier cru vineyards including Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières and Meursault les Gouttes d'Or.
