Red Wine: 2014 | Domaine de Saint-Prefert | Chateauneuf du Pape Charles Giraud (Magnum)
Full ruby. Deeply perfumed, smoke-tinged aromas of cherry compote, boysenberry, anise and garrigue, complicated by a potpourri flourish. Juicy, expansive and appealingly sweet, offering intense red and blue fruit liqueur flavors and a touch of floral pastilles. Youthful tannins build slowly on an impressively long, focused finish that leaves a soft lavender note behind.

Reviews:
-
James Suckling: Dense for the vintage, with a core of fig and blackberry fruit that has melded with ample pepper, tobacco and lavender notes. This has plenty in reserve, though the long, juicy finish lets everything play out, leaving a light sanguine echo at the very end. Should age well
- Wine Advocate: Tasted from barrel, the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Collection Charles Giraud incorporates a splash of Syrah in 2014 and is a blend of 55% Grenache, 40% Mourvèdre and 5% Syrah. Aged 18 months in mostly two- to three-year-old barrels, it has lots of white pepper, cedary spice, plum and darker berry fruit on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, lively and fresh.
Producer Information
Isabel Ferrando bought the Domaine Saint Prefert and vinified for the first time in 2003. The estate is situated on the south side of the village of Chateauneuf-du-Pape atop gravel and pebble soils. Domaine Saint Prefert produces wines epitomizing the Provencal region. Herbs such as garrigue, thyme and rosemary abound. Grenache is expressed in notes of candied fruit, chocolate and roasted coffee. Isabel Ferrando farms organically. She expanded her holdings and built a new state-of-the-art winery in 2009. Isabel's mentality is to never stop improving: "The substantial work done in the vineyards over the past eight years brings us ever closer to the level of quality that I seek. Progress is ahead of us."
