      Detailed Description

      Producer Information

Château Monlot is an estate in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux. It produces red wines based on Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The former accounts for 75 percent of plantings. The property lies at the heart of the appellation, next to Château Pavie. There are 8 hectares (20 acres) of vineyard, and vines average 35-40 years of age. One three-hectare (7 acre) section lies on a clay-limestone slope and is the main source for the first wine. The blend tends to be around two-thirds Merlot. The remaining five hectares (12 acres) lies on clay-loam, and is the basis for the second wine, Héritage de Monlot. This tends to have around 90 percent Merlot. The wines are aged for 12-18 months depending on the vintage. New oak use varies from 30-40 percent. The property's documented history goes back to the 17th Century. At the time of its contruction it was sited on land belonging to King Louis XIII. Its current name dates back to 1803.
