      Detailed Description

Good red-ruby color. Withdrawn but pure aromas of blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate and spicy oak.

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: Good red-ruby color. Withdrawn but pure aromas of blackberry, black cherry, dark chocolate and spicy oak. Not as obviously dense as the Boudots but nicely delineated and rather stylish for Clos Vougeot, with its flavors of dark berries, mint and licorice complemented by saline soil tones. I find this slightly high-toned wine quite suave for its vintage. The serious but fine-grained tannins arrive late and build with air. This cuvée is typically the highest in pH in this cellar but not in 2015; in fact, at 3.49 it's quite reasonable in the context of this very warm year.
        • Allen Meadows: Firm reduction. I very much like the rich and velvety mouth feel of the extract-rich medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by notably firm but not hard tannins on the powerful, serious and mocha-inflected finish. This is very ripe but it manages to avoid the youthful austerity that is so typical of young Clos de Vougeot. At last moderate patience required.

        Producer Information

Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Its focus is on red wines made from Pinot Noir. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. In the winery, grapes are destalked prior to a short period of cold maceration. Fermentation is done in both stainless steel and oak before being placed immediately into barrels for ageing. The wines see varying levels of French oak, depending on their status, with the grand crus getting a higher proportion of new oak. Wines are bottled without any fining or filtering.
