The wine holds massive volumes of bright-red fruit and lifted aromatics; and upon smelling the wine the expectation is that it would be very soft on the pallet – but then firm tannins are met.

Wine Advocate: Beginning with a lighter and lifted nose, the 2020 Old Vine Series Pofadder offers Pinot Noire-like aromas with hints of potpourri and red spice before ripe, dusty cherry skin flows out of the glass with a kiss of green herbs. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers a just-ripe fruit quality with flavors of tart cherries and wild strawberries and fine mineral tension. The wine has a balanced structure yet concludes with a slightly tannic and drying finish.
Producer Information
The Sadie Family strives for wines that are fresh, flavorsome, refined, harmonious and balanced and aims to offer drinking pleasure at the highest level of quality, at any stage of a wine's life: the wine-drinker's eagerness for a further glass is their measure of achievement! The Sadie's two wines, Columella and Palladius, originate in the soils in the Swartland region, which stretches north of Cape Town between Durbanville and Piketberg, inland from the Atlantic Ocean, and centered on the town of Malmesbury. Importantly, the area has a remarkably stable climate, allowing a consistent level of quality each year, in subtly different vintage conditions.
