      Detailed Description

The palate is powerful and complex. A wine of great finesse and an impressive length in the mouth.

        Producer Information

Château Laroque is a Bordeaux wine producer in Saint-Émilion, rated as a Grand Cru Classé estate from the appellation's Classification of 1955. It produces a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend, yet is perhaps best known for its impressive 18th Century château. The château's total vineyard land spans a continuous 61 hectares (151 acres), making it one of the largest estates in Saint-Émilion, but only 27ha (67 acres) of the property is reserved for the grand vin. The remaining fruit from the estate is used to produce wine under the label Château Peymouton. Here, the clay-limestone plateau is planted to 87 percent Merlot, 11 percent Cabernet Franc, and two percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The land was first planted by Marquis de Rochefort-Lavie in the 1700s, and again by the Beaumartin family in the 1960s, after years of stalled production. The vines are an average of 40 years old, although the oldest of these, at 55 years old, comprise 14ha (36 acres) of the estate. The château's top wine is vinified in cement vats and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, around 50 percent new. Château Laroque makes around 11,000 cases of its top wine annually, and around 5000 cases of Château Peymouton.
