      Detailed Description

A very consistent wine which is refined and well balanced.

        Producer Information

Château Laroze is a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate situated on the Saint-Émilion plateau just over two kilometers (1.2 miles) northwest of Saint-Emilion town, between Château Yon-Figeac, further to the northwest, and the Clos des Jacobins and Château Franc Mayne properties to the southeast, back towards the town. This estate itself was established in 1882 when Georges Gurchy and his wife bought and combined three small vineyards totalling 15 hectares (37 acres). The château building and cellars were built three years later in 1885. Decades later, Georges Gurchy's granddaughter married a Doctor Meslin, and the estate remains under the ownership and management of the Meslin family. The estate was named a Grand Cru Classé in the original 1955 Saint-Émilion classification. It has retained this status throughout each successive iteration (the classification is reviewed roughly every decade) of the classification. The estate now encompasses 27 hectares (67 acres) of vines on silica-clay soils surrounding the château. Plantings are 68 percent Merlot with 26 percent Cabernet Franc, and six percent Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate wines are fermented and aged in a mix of concrete cuves, stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. Aging for the grand vin takes place in cuve and barrel, 70 percent of which are new oak. As well as the eponymous grand vin, a second wine – La Fleur Laroze – is produced. A third wine, Lady Laroze, was introduced with the 2010 vintage to celebrate the owning family's 400th anniversary making wine in Saint-Émilion.
