      Producer Information

Château Preuillac is a wine estate in the northern Médoc region of Bordeaux, located some 65km (40 miles) north of the city of Bordeaux. It lies roughly another 10km (six miles) north of the Saint-Estèphe appellation (and the border with the Haut-Médoc). The estate focuses on the production of three red wines: Château Preuillac (the flagship "grand vin"), Esprit de Preuillac (the estate's second wine) and the third wine: Émotion Preuillac. The foundations of Château Preuillac were laid by Edmond Addé in 1869 and within 70 years, the estate had gained Cru Bourgeois status (in 1932). Following several changes in ownership, Preuillac was acquired by Raymond Bouët in 1969. In 1998, with the selling of the château and its vines to the Mau and Dirkzwager families, high-profile regional figure Jean-Christophe Mau (of Bordeaux négoce firm Yvon Mau and head of Château Brown in Pessac-Léognan) took control of the management of the estate. Mau has remained the château's director through its acquisition by Chinese investors (through the Vins Plus company) in 2014. The 30-hectare (74-acre) estate vineyard is planted primarily to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the remainder. The sun-exposed, south-facing vineyard is composed of three soil types: clay-limestone and gravel (which accounts for roughly half of the vineyard); and a quarter each of gravel and sandy gravel soils. After fermentation and maceration in the château's large-format wooden vats, the wines age on their lees in French oak barrels, with the grand vin spending 12 months in barrel. Roughly a third of the barrels are new oak.
