2010 | Porte Noire | Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne

Porte Noir, meaning Black Door in French, is top actor Idris Elba's restaurant and Champagne brand. He's clearly aiming for the high end if this release is anything to go by. Produced by Champagne Sanger, it's 100% chardonnay and made only from grapes grown in Grand Cru vineyards and is given an extended ageing on the lees. On the nose there's lemon and subtle meringue, toast, coffee and hazelnut notes. It's racy on the palate, with delicate bubbles and a long, rich, mature finish.

Porte Noire was born out of a shared passion for wine between Frenchman and oenophile, David Farber and Renaissance man, Idris Elba, well known actor and musician who is best known for his roles in he Wire, Luther and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. David’s wealth of knowledge and experience in the wine trade and Idris’s verve and eye for what’s next has enabled them to curate a delicious and unique collection of wines.
