      Producer Information

Head of the winery and chief winemaker is Anton “Andi” Kollwentz – not to be mistaken with Anton Kollwentz senior, his father. His wife, Heidemarie “Heidi” Kollwentz, is responsible for the business side of the winery, and their two daughters, Barbara and Christina, are already involved too. Of course, Anton Kollwentz senior still offers guidance and is passionate about driving the tractor. However, the family circle extends much further than just to close relatives. Most employees have been with the winery for years or even decades. What is more, every day, the Kollwentz family and their winery team get together for lunch in the main house. The winery holds approximately 25 ha of vineyards near the winery – less than a 3 km radius away. A large share is planted with Blaufränkisch, Austria’s most prestigious indigenous red grape variety, followed by Chardonnay, Zweigelt and two small plots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot noir. To the West there is Ried Point (Ried meaning Single Vineyard) and Ried Haussatz. Both have a southerly exposition, are at relatively low altitude, 195 m – 212 m, with little inclination and have a soil composed predominantly of limestone and clay. Heidi explains that the two vineyards benefit from a constant westerly breeze, which make them perfectly suited for Zweigelt, as it is prone to rot. To the east there are the single vineyards Ried Setz, Ried Tatschler and Ried Spiegeln (from South to North). Unlike the vineyards in the West their soils are schistous with a clay limestone top layer.
