      Detailed Description

Intense cherry red with a dense layer. On the nose it is very balanced and elegant, without losing the essence of the Tempranillo variety. It presents perfectly integrated new barrel aromas and profiles of ripe fruit and spices. In the mouth, it marks the power and the structure that is assembled with a very balanced acidity.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Enthusiast: Cherry red with a ruby rim. A complex and balanced bouquet with the rich nuances of a great vintage and respect for the tradition or the brand. The nose proffers a harmonious combination of Tempranillo fruit notes and shades from quality ageing in the barrel that respects the raw material. Mellow and medium-bodied in the mouth, with sweet tannins and a long and persistent aftertaste.
      • James Suckling: Nice balance and concentration with some dark cherries, blackberries and spices on the nose followed by a full-bodied palate. Dense, structured and juicy, showing an immediate appeal despite the tight structure. 100% tempranillo.

      Producer Information

Emilio Moro is a Spanish winery based in Ribera del Duero that primarily produces red wines from the Tinto Fino grape variety (the local name for Tempranillo). It was established in 1987 when the Moro family pooled resources to purchase a press and cellar, but the family has more than 120 years of winemaking heritage in the region. Historically Bodegas Emilio Moro cultivated vines for the production of bulk wines until changing consumer tastes invigorated the market for fine wines. Bodegas Emilio Moro has four estate vineyards: Resalso, Camino Viejo, Sanchomartín, and its oldest, Valderramiro, which was planted in 1925. The vineyards overlook the Duero river, sitting on land that sometimes reaches as high as 700m (2300ft) above sea level. The bodega produces numerous wines with various amounts of bottle- and cask-aging, which are labeled with proprietary names. The top wine, the Clon de la Familia, has a limited annual production, while its Finca Resalso and eponymous Emilio Moro reach 600,000 bottles each. The Malleolus range – a reference to the name for old vines in the region, known as "majuelos" – includes the single-vineyard Valderramio (planted in 1924) and the one-hectare (2.5 acre) Sanchomartín sites. The standard Malleolus wine is from a blend of old-vine sites in the region. The bodega has a research and development department that works with a number of universities on various projects, especially those promoting the success of Tinto Fino. Emilio Moro was also a founder of the Institute for Vine and Wine in conjunction with the University of León. More recently, the winery has branched out into producing a range of Godello-based white wines from the Bierzo region, to the northwest.
