        Producer Information

Carmel Winery is a historic Israeli wine producer that was founded in 1882 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild of Château Lafite Rothschild in Pauillac. It is the largest producer in Israel and one of the largest in the eastern Mediterranean, making more than 15 million bottles of wine a year. All of Carmel's wines are Kosher. The estate's vineyard land stretches from the Upper Galilee in the north to Negev in the south, covering around 1400 hectares (3470 acres) of land in total. Carmel grows a wide range of varieties, from red grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan, Shiraz and Merlot to white varieties like Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier. Grapes intended for the estate's largest production wines primarily come from the Shomron wine region in the coastal area south of Haifa, while the estate's single-vineyard and prestige wines are primarily produced with fruit from the Upper Galilee. Carmel has several wineries around the country. The first of these, Rishon Le Zion Winery and Zichron Ya'acov Wine Cellars, were built by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1890 and 1892 respectively. The estate's headquarters and main blending and bottling facilities were based at the Rishon Le Zion site in southern Tel Aviv. However, following Carmel's acquisition by leading Israeli private equity firm Kedma Capital in 2013, production was gradually shifted and consolidated to a newly-built, 11,500 square meter winery site at the Alon Tavor Industrial Zone just south of Nazereth, between Haifa and the Sea of Galilee. The company's Center for Wine Culture, along with its 100-year-old cellars carved into the mountains, remains at Zichron Ya'acov. Carmel also owns and produces wines at the boutique Kayoumi Winery in the Upper Galilee – the primary source of Carmel's single-vineyard wines. It also owns a 50 percent share of Yatir Winery in the northern Negev. The estate's wine portfolio has numerous labels, ranges and collections, including Carmel Fine Wines, Carmel Ridge, Private Collection and Selected. The company also produces a brandy, made primarily from Colombard, sparkling wines and grape juice. Carmel's signature wine, the Carmel Limited Edition, is a Bordeaux-style blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc from the the Upper Galilee. The wine is matured in French oak barrels for 15 months before bottling.
