    Country/Region: United Kingdom, Devon

      Detailed Description

2020 was a pretty crap year for most of us. But a good year for the grapes that went into this Chardonnay by Devonshire-based Lyme Bay Winery. All of that unseasonably warm weather in the UK resulted in exceptionally ripe grapes, and an exceptional vintage that led the folks over at Lyme Bay to declare 2020 "the year of the Chardonnay". Aged in French oak, this wine certainly delivers on that promise, giving a deliciously creamy and complex structure, with everything you'd want from a dry English Chardonnay, and more. Suitable for ageing if you're that way inclined, otherwise it's a fabulous food pairing for strong cheeses – think Cheddar and ripe Brie – as well as your classic creamy pastas and roast chicken.

      Producer Information

From English still and sparkling wine, to spiced rum, mead, gin, fruit wine, cider, and liqueurs, Lyme Bay Winery’s award-winning range is full of goodies. Based in the Devon countryside, producing ‘country’ drinks, it’s also the home of the Jack Ratt Lugger Rum brand, named after infamous local smuggler Jack Rattenbury (sometimes known as the ‘Rob Roy of the West’). Lyme Bay Winery works with grape growers from all over the country to source high quality fruit from different microclimates and soils – alongside those from its own vineyards – to craft its celebrated Pinot Noir, for example, which received an extremely impressive 95 points at the 2022 International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC).
