      Detailed Description

Crisp, fresh wine, with a creamy texture, full of green apples with a pear pepperiness. The wine is light, very drinkable, a great aperitif style.

      Producer Information

Salomon Undhof is one of Austria's best-known wine producers, making a range of Riesling and Grüner Veltliner wines in Kremstal. The estate has a long history of more than 200 years. Today, it is a modern operation with a large export market, particularly in the US. The company is based on the edge of the Danube, between the towns of Krems and Stein. Most of its wines are grown in the surrounding vineyards and fall under the Kremstal DAC title. Many of Salomon Undhof's wines come from named vineyards, like Pfaffenberg and Kögl, and may carry the "Erste Lage" (first growth) designation as well. Kremstal's terroir suits both Riesling and Grüner, and the DAC title allows for the use of both. Salomon Undhof plants Riesling higher on the hills, where the rocky soil contributes to the fine minerality the wines are known for. Grüner Veltliner performs better on the richer loess soils further down the hill, where it can develop more structure and body. Salomon Undhof's wines are famously balanced and taut, and some of the top examples are capable of long cellaring. Salomon Undhof's focus is very much on Kremstal in Austria, but the company also owns vineyards in Australia and New Zealand. Salomon Estate makes wines in the Fleurieu Peninsula, south of Adelaide, while Salomon & Andrew makes Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir in New Zealand.
