Detailed Description

This single cask comes to us from family-run indie bottler Hunter Laing & Co. Specially selected and bottled for the Heritage series in the Platinum Old & Rare Selection, this expression was distilled at Balmenach in Speyside in 1979. Matured for four full decades, it has been bottled at a natural cask strength of 45.4% abv free from all chill filtration and artificial colouring. Just 174 bottles have been produced of this limited edition.

Balmenach 1979 40 Year Old Platinum Old & Rare Single Malt Scotch Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: This golden whisky has notes of golden syrup, vanilla, rhubarb crumble and custard on the nose.

Palate: Christmas notes on the palate with ginger, white pepper, and blood oranges marinated with sultana juice.

Finish: A long, rich, spicy finish follows.

Distillery Information

Balmenach Distillery was established in 1824 by James MacGregor, from a family of farmers and illicit distillers who resided in Tomintoul. Situated in the district of Cromdale on the banks of the River Spey the distillery stands in beneath the nearby hill of Tom Lethendry where the Jacobites were defeated in the Battle of Cromdale in 1690.
