Detailed Description

Distilled in 2015, bottled in 2022, this seven-year-old single malt from Dailuaine spent time in a refill hogshead, before being treated to a finish in an oloroso octave. That sherry cask has certainly done its job, imparting hearty helpings of stewed fruit, sticky sweetness, and spice to the buttery malt at its core. 112 bottles join our exclusive range of Master of Malt single cask bottlings.

Dailuaine 7 Year Old 2015 Oloroso Finish Single Cask (Private Label) | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: Doughy with notes of yeasty bread and parbaked cookies. Crisp pear and lemon peel lead to candle wax, subtle whisps of candyfloss, mango sticky rice, and salted parma ham.

Palate: Sticky sweet malt coats the palate, bringing biscuity spice before a whole heap of stewed apples and clove-studded orange. Oily barley brings buttery layers of caramel and pastry, with a meaty hint of beer sticks and fennel.

Finish: A hint of root ginger warmth pokes through in time, with candied pineapple to balance.

Distillery Information

In 1852, William Mackenzie founded Dailuaine Distillery. Dailuaine derives from the Scottish Gaelic ‘An dail uaine’ meaning ‘green valley’, named most probably for those elegant undulations of the Spey valley in which the Dailuaine whisky distillery lies.William had also been a farmer who worked in the Carron area. Following his death in 1865, William Mackenzie’s wife leased the distillery to a banker from Aberlour called James Fleming, who, with William’s son, formed Mackenzie and Company in 1879. Five years later an extensive rebuild commenced, leaving the distillery as one of Scotland’s largest. Another five years on and Charles Doig built Scotland’s first pagoda roof, which graced the distillery until it collapsed in 1917 after a menacing conflagration desecrated the buildings.
