Laphroaig 2014 Cairdeas Amontillado Cask Edition Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Cairdeas is an annual specialty expression from Laphroaig, bottled as a gesture for their fans ("cairdeas" is Gaelic for "friendship.") This one was aged in ex-bourbon barrels and then finished in first-fill Amontillado sherry casks for one year.

Nose: Banana, honey and some Marmite-y yeast notes. There's a heap of brown sugar in here too as well as peaty porridge and a little dried papaya.

Palate: Bacon, dates, a bit more yeast and well-barbecued apple slices.

Finish: Some kind of salted barbecued goods.

Laphroaig distillery is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky distillery. It is named for the area of land at the head of Loch Laphroaig on the south coast of the Isle of Islay.
