Kentucky whiskey. First Barrel: Fire-charred, new American white oak barrels. Second Barrel: Toasted barrel made from 24-month air-dried wood. Enhanced spice notes with delicate chocolate overtones balanced by some vanilla and honey, hints of roasted nuts and dates, with a lingering finish of burnt brown sugar reminiscent of crème brûlée complemented by some smokey campfire highlights.

Nose: The nose is complex with sweet rye spices, toasted oak, and smoke. Toasted marshmallow and hazelnut begin to appear as the spirit opens in the glass.

Palate: The first sip has a silky mouthfeel. There is some heat concentrated in the back palate that flows into the chest. Smoke notes are present. The second sip has a medium viscosity. The flavors envelop the entire mouth. Sweet rye spice, toasted oak, and smoke are most prominent. The third sip consists of smoked vanilla and toasted marshmallows.

Finish: The finish is medium to long. There is a good balance of heat and flavor. Oak spice, vanilla, dark fruit and smoke are noticeable.

Michters claims to be America’s oldest whisky producer. Founded in 1753, the original distillery was started up by the Swiss Mennonite, Schenk brothers, Johann and Michael, in Pennsylvania, using rye from their own grain fields in Schafferstown. .
Throughout the Pennsylvania distillery’s existence, its name has changed several, For most of its existence is was called Bomberger’s, then Penno, and finally Michters. If you think that Michters is a strange name, you would be right. It came around mid 20th century when the owner at that time. Louis Forman named it after his sons, Michael, and Peter.
