      Detailed Description

A very subtle hint of wood frames the restrained, airy, cool and very fresh nose of green apple, citrus and lightly spiced pear aromas that include a touch of mineral reduction. The intensely mineral-driven flavors possess a mouth feel of pure silk thanks to the ample amount of dry extract that buffers well the very firm and bright acidity that supports the transparent, long and refined finish.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The 2010 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru offers an enticing array of marine scents on the nose: cockle shells and estuarine aromas. Give it a couple more minutes and watch those lovely grilled walnut scents flourish and multiply so that is ends up almost Meursault Perrieres in character. The palate makes an immediate impression on the entry with that subtle nutty theme continuing, partnered with racy acidity, superb concentration and a long, tense finish that is energetic and surfeit with mineralite, flint popping up on the finish.
      • Vinous: A wine of pure and ample breadth, the 2011 Corton-Charlemagne has really shut down over the last few months. Pear, almond and white peach notes emerge, but only with great reluctance. Today it is the wine's intense minerality and salinity that dominate. The 2010 is a big wine. Accordingly it will require a measure of patience in the cellar. This is one of the more inward, unexpressive bottles of the 2010 I have tasted, but its inner strength is apparent.

Domaine Bonneau du Martray is a Burgundian wine producer based in Pernand-Vergelesses. Bonneau du Martray is dedicated to the production of two grand crus: Corton and Corton-Charlemagne. It is the only estate in Burgundy to make wines exclusively from Grand Cru vineyards. Estate-owned vineyads are all located in a single parcel on the famous Corton hill. The 23.5 acre (9.5ha) parcel of Chardonnay is the largest single holding in the Grand Cru. This Corton-Charlemagne produced from here by the estate is widely regarded as one of the greatest white wines made from Chardonnay in Burgundy. The other 3.7 acres (1.5ha) plot is planted to Pinot Noir for said Corton. These wines have been domaine bottled since 1969. In the winery, fermentations are seperated according to the vineyard block that the grapes are sourced from. All fermentations are spontaneous with no innoculations or commercial yeasts utilized. Up to 30-percent new oak is for 12 months of barrel maturation prior to a further 6 months of ageing in tanks. Wines are lightly filtered prior to bottling. The domaine was founded by the Bonneau family following the French Revolution, but the vineyards already had a reputation for producing exceptional wines. It is estimated that vines have exsisted here since Roman times and that emperor Charlemagne was a devotee, to the red wines inparticular.
