      Detailed Description

Dark red-ruby, Highly perfumed, Aromas and flavors of cranberry, plum and flowers. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish.

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: Dark red-ruby. Highly perfumed, refined aromas of red cherry, raspberry eau de vie, minerals and rose petal, complicated by sweet spices. Bright and clean in the mouth, with lively acidity lifting the red fruit and spicy floral flavors at the back. Finishes with repeating notes of juicy red berries and minerals. Strange as it may seem in a vintage of light wines like 2013, this Lagrange seems to have a deeper nose and more density than usual.
        • Wine Enthusiast: Barrel Sample. The wine opens with concentrated, plush fruit. Dense tannins give power to the wine, but are softened on the finish by a bright acidity.

        Producer Information

Château Lagrange is a well-regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Julien appellation of the Haut-Médoc region, north of Bordeaux city on the so-called "left bank" of the Gironde estuary. The estate was classified as a third growth in the 1855 Classification of the Médoc and Graves. Its eponymous grand vin regularly receives high ratings and critical praise. Historically, there is evidence that grapes were planted here in the Middle Ages but it was not until the 17th Century, with the amalgamation of two properties (the "tenement of Pellecahus" and Lagrange) that the genesis of the current property was formed under the noble title of Lagrange de Monteil. The estate was passed between many well-known wine merchants and families throughout the 18th, 19th and 20th Centuries until the current owners, Japanese drinks giant Suntory, purchased the estate in 1983. The wider estate covers 118 hectares (291 acres) with red grape varieties broken up between Cabernet Sauvignon (67 percent), Merlot (28 percent) and five percent Petit Verdot. The estate also boasts 11 hectares (27 acres) of white varieties made up of 80 percent Sauvignon Blanc, ten percent Sauvignon Gris and ten percent Sémillon. The composition of the wines reflect the ratios of planting with some of th oldest vines dating back to the 1950s. The eponymous grand vin is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend, aged for nearly two years in 60 percent new oak.
