Red Wine: 2014 | Domaine Forey Pere & Fils | Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru St. Georges

The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porets Saint-Georges had a strange bouquet, quite high-toned, perhaps a little volatile (unusual for this vintage). The palate is medium-bodied, a little chewy on the entry with a touch of bitterness on the finish.

      Detailed Description

The 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porets Saint-Georges had a strange bouquet, quite high-toned, perhaps a little volatile (unusual for this vintage). The palate is medium-bodied, a little chewy on the entry with a touch of bitterness on the finish. This is difficult to make out at the moment.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Spectator: I like the complexity of the very fresh and densely fruited, earthy and floral-inflected nose. There is excellent richness and volume to the suave medium-bodied flavors where once again the firm minerality adds lift to the ever-so-mildly austere, complex and well-balanced finale. This too should be approachable after 5 to 7 years but has the potential to reward 10 to 12.

        Producer Information

Domaine Forey Père et Fils is a Burgundian wine producer based in Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits region. The domaine focuses entirely on red wines made from Pinot Noir. The portfolio is headed by two grand cru wines from Vougeot and Flagey-Échézeaux. It also features five premier crus, two in each of Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and one in Morey-Saint-Denis. Village-level wines are made from all three appellations.Unusually, three different village Vosne-Romanée wines are made from the same fruit. The "conventional" bottling is aged in 500-liter hogsheads (see below for winemaking). Jarre is aged in terracotta for a little extra minerality, while the Menhir cuvée is made in a truncated cone-shaped oak vat. A number of Bourgogne wines are also made.
