Constructed in the mid to late 1700s, the château required extensive modernizations and renovations. Vineyards are situated on south-facing slopes near the Gironde, and cover 12 hectares (30 acres) of land. Vines are planted to deep clay-limestone soils and are close to 50 years of age and therefor produce low yields with concentrated flavor compounds. Merlot comprises well over a half of the total plantings here at around 85 percent, with a smaller portion of Cabernet Sauvignon.
