Peg Leg Porker 12 Year Old Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The new Peg Leg Porker Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey 12-Year-Oldfollows on the heels of two previous expressions, including an 8-year-old released last year which won a gold medal at the 2016 San Francisco Spirits Competition. The latest bottling, sourced from an undisclosed distillery, was aged a dozen years in new charred oak barrels before being filtered through what’s described as Bringle’s “signature filtering technique.” As to what specifically this technique is, Bringle told us in our interview with him that the whiskey is filtered through hickory charcoal he had burned down in the same smoker where he cooks whole hogs. This is somewhat different then the more traditional Lincoln County process for Tennessee whiskey, in that Peg Leg is filtered before bottling and also that the hickory is used instead of sugar maple coal.

Nose: The nose on this one is awfully sweet. It’s like a sweet caramel syrup that’s just waiting to coat your mouth.

Palate: The taste is sweet, syrupy, hickory smoke that literally tastes like it has just come off a rack of ribs. There’s a slight tingle and a faint amount of heat, but you will be more impressed at the BBQ smoke that you may have to taste it again to notice it.

Finish: The finish lingers. It makes you feel full, like you just had a taste of a great meal.

Distillery Information

With over 18,000 square feet, 6 barrel warehouses at capacity and a 43-foot custom copper still, Lux Row Distillers is capable of producing 3 million gallons of spirit per year. When fully complete we will have the composite to process 50 thousand barrels of whiskey annually.
