Vizcaya Rum Cask No. 21 VXOP is a blend of 18 and 21 year old Rums distilled from sugar cane juice (rather than molasses) and aged in ex-Bourbon casks. Rums produced from sugar cane juice tend to be less sweet and more pungent than those produced from molasses (think Zacappa). Bang-for-the-buck Rum of the year!

Vizcaya VXOP Cask No. 21 Rum Tasting Notes

Nose: Pungent dried fruit and vanilla with faint cinnamon.<

Palate: Quite sweet but with hints of maple syrup but with balancing delicate dry spiced oak.

Finish: Long fruity spiced finish.

Distillery Information

Oliver Juanillo founded a sugarcane and tobacco plantation in Cuba in the 19th century. Soon after, a distillery was established, which stayed in operation until 1959, during the Cuban Revolution. The founders of Oliver & Oliver fled the country, settling in the Dominican Republic in 1963. There they discovered some very ideal conditions to produce a premium quality Rum. Oliver & Oliver produce the likes of Punta Cana, Unhiq, Ron Quorhum and Tres Hombres labels. Oliver & Oliver produce their Rums using a traditional pot-still method.
