Wild Turkey Cheesy Gold Foil 12 Year Old 1988-1992 Straight Bourbon Whisky

The mid-80s to the early 90s was the reign of the Cheesy Gold Foil, named after the bottle’s shiny label and tube. The Cheesy Gold Foil was introduced following the Glut Era, a period in which bourbon sales were at an all-time low. As a result, a lot of premium barrels, often aged for much longer than mentioned on the label, ended up in standard bottles of Wild Turkey. Wild Turkey 12 Years Old Cheesy Gold Foil is widely regarded as some of the best bourbon Wild Turkey has ever produced.

Wild Turkey Cheesy Gold Foil 12 Year Old 1988-1992 Straight Bourbon Whisky Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich vanilla, molasses, antique leather, floral perfume, musty/funky oak, toasted marshmallow, pipe tobacco, ripe citrus.

Palate: Classic vanilla syrup, cinnamon, pepper, leather, fresh-baked sugar cookie, rich molasses, sweet cream icing, floral perfume, herbal spice, antique musty oak.

Finish: Beautifully long & full of flavor – spicy vanilla, sweet musk, fading herbal/floral-laced oak.

Distillery Information

The Wild Turkey distillery, originally known as Boulevard, was built in 1869 in Tyrone, Kentucky. The name was not Wild Turkey until 1941 when some, shared on a hunting trip, was referred to as "some of that wild turkey whiskey."
