      Distillery Information

Château de la Gardine is a 54-hectare (133-acre) wine estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, acquired by well-known négociant Gaston Brunel in 1945 and expanded over the decades. Brunel family holdings now also include vineyards in the nearby Rasteau and Côtes-du-Rhône Villages regions as well as the Château St-Roch in Lirac. The Gardine estate wines are generally well-regarded and released in a unique bottle. The estate vineyards in Châteauneuf-du-Pape span 52 hectares (128 acres), 48 hectares (117 acres) of which are planted to red varieties and four hectares (10 acres) to white. The property's terroir is composed of loam, limestone, gravel, and Châteauneuf-du-Pape's famous galets, or "pudding stones". It is planted to a range of the appellation's permitted grape varieties, including Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Muscardin, Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne and Bourboulenc. The oldest of these were planted in 1925. Red wines from the château include the Cuvée Peur Bleue, Cuvée l'Immortelle, and Château de la Gardine Cuvée des Générations Gaston-Philippe. All three blends are composed of equal parts of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah from different terroirs, and are limited production – only some 90 cases of Cuvée l'Immortelle are produced annually. The estate also makes two Châteauneuf-du-Pape white blends: Cuvée des Générations Marie-Léonice and Cuvée Tradition. The Brunel de la Gardine label is a négoce range and spans appellations in the wider northern and southern Rhône The Brunel family also produces Rasteau and Côtes du Rhone under the Château de la Gardine label, and Lirac from Château Saint Roch, a 40-hectare (99-acre) southern Rhône estate acquired by the Brunels in 1998.
