Producer Information
Ogier is a French wine company based in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the southern Rhône. The business was founded in 1859 when Antoine Ogier acquired an old cooperage and set up a négociant firm. This became a négociant-éleveur in 1948 when the company bought its own cellars to blend and age wines bought from other producers. Ogier merged with another negociant, Caves des Papes, and this combined business was purchased by Maison Jeanjean of the Languedoc in 1994. Jeanjean in turn joined with Laroche in 2010 to form AdVini SA. Today, Ogier makes a range of wines from around the southern Rhône. The portfolio includes a quartet of red Châteauneuf wines sourced from and named after the main terroir types within the appellation. Red, white and rosé wines are also made from Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Lirac, Tavel, and Côtes du Rhône at standard and Villages level. In 2000, Ogier-Caves des Papes expanded its operations into estate-grown wines by purchasing Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, with 20 hectares (50 acres) of vineyards. Since then, the wines have been made at other Ogier facilities, but aged at Clos de L'Oratoire des Papes cellars in the town. More recently, Ogier has acquired another nine hectares (22 acres) of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards, along with a new winery at Courthézon, just east of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Since 2004, Ogier has also owned the Notre Dame de Cousignac estate in the Ardèche, which boasts 60 hectares (150 acres) of organically farmed vineyards and produces wine classified as Côtes du Rhône and Côtes du Vivarais. Ogier should not be confused with the northern Rhône producer, Stéphane Ogier, based in Ampuis.
