      Detailed Description

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The top score, though, has to go to the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, which is 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest small quantities of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. This wine has an opaque purple color, a big, sweet kiss of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, some graphite, a juicy, full-bodied, savory mouthfeel, and excellent purity and underlying balance. This seamlessly rich mountain Cabernet Sauvignon should age effortlessly for two decades or more.
      • Vinous: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is the most reticent of these wines from Mt. Brave. Powerful, explosive and tightly wound, the Cabernet offers notable intensity and plenty of depth. Readers should expect to cellar the 2014 for at least a few years. This is one of the better relative values among the high end wines in the Jackson portfolio. Hints of lavender, espresso and bittersweet chocolate round out the nuanced finish.

      Producer Information

Mt. Brave is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of those who settled the rugged terrain of Mt. Veeder during the 1800s and an homage to the Wappo Indians, "the brave ones," who were the original inhabitants of this extraordinary place. The Mt. Brave Vineyard, once the Chateau Potelle Vineyard, was established decades ago at elevations ranging from 1,400 to 1,800 feet. While Mt. Veeder is cool, Mt. Brave sits above the fog line, with morning sun warming the grapes each day. Soils are a sparse, gravelly loam. Nutrients and minerals are scant, resulting in tiny berries with concentrated and complex flavors. At harvest, small lug boxes must be carefully moved up and down the steep slopes to protect both vines and vineyard workers.
