Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Here's another great vintage from Elena Fucci, the ascending star of a rising wine region in the deep south of Italy. The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo shows a dark garnet color and robust appearance. Very characteristic of this extreme territory, this is a dark and penetrating wine with etched mineral notes behind blackberry, plum and savory spice. This vintage presents an even darker quality of fruit. In the mouth, you get iron, blood and dark mineral nuances that are absolutely typical of these darkened volcanic soils. This wine needs more time to integrate in the bottle before you pop the cork.
- James Suckling: This shows aromas of black cherries, blueberries and licorice. Full body, fine tannins and a juicy and really drinkable finish. Slightly chewy at the end.
Producer Information
Perched above the famous Villa Rotondo, the Fucci property towers over the heart of the Aglianico del Vulture area in Basilicata. At 650 meters of altitude the soil is pure black volcanic lava, also locally known as 'pozzolana'. "Titolo" is the name of this Lava channel or "costone", which came down from the now extinct Vulture volcano. Nobody owns vineyards located higher than the Fucci's, no winery harvests later than the Fucci's, making these Aglianico grapes the last grapes harvested in all of Europe for dry red wine making!
