      Detailed Description

Delicately scented, this offers alluring aromas of red woodland berry, camphor and a whiff of rosemary in bloom. It's elegant to the point of being ethereal, with an almost gossamer-like texture featuring taut silky tannins that lithely support sour cherry, pomegranate and star anise. Bright acidity keeps it fresh and light on its feet before it finishes on a drying note evoking raw coffee bean.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Spectator: Wild herb, cherry, iron and tobacco flavors mark this dense, compact red. Stiff, dusty tannins form a defensive finish, yet there is ample ripe fruit up front. Best from 2023 through 2040. 1,830 cases made.
        • Vinous: The 2015 Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino struts its Castelnuovo dell'Abate origins with pride, taking all of the best aspects of this sunny vintage and adding a savoriness that balances everything out so well. The bouquet is a stunning mix of savory cherry sauce, sage, seared meat, cinnamon, moist earth, and a hint of animal musk. On the palate, its textures are like the purest silk being slowly drawn across the senses in a seamless expression of dark red fruits, sweet spice and inner florals. Nothing is out of place here, showing incredible balance and poise, while remaining tightly wound up in it’s youthful state. The finish seems to go on and on, displaying pretty red fruits and floral tones over a core of salty minerals and rock-solid tannin. You could drink this now, but you’d be missing out, because beneath all of its suave character and textural richness, it is a beast of a wine just waiting to come out.

        Producer Information

Fattoria Poggio di Sotto was founded in 1989 on the Southeast side of Montalcino, just outside of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. A winery dedicated to perfection, Poggio di Sotto is planted with a single variety (Sangiovese Grosso) on the choicest soils to produce extraordinary wines in Montalcino. The grapes enjoy a unique microclimate influenced by the Orcia River, the Monte Amiata Volcano, and the Mediterranean Sea. Extremely low yields, organic farming and spontaneous, natural fermentation create wines of extraordinary character and elegance.
