Red with fascinating notes of red fruit and small black berry fruit, integrated with spices, undergrowth and mineral notes. Full-bodied and structured with a dense and important tannic texture. Very fresh and persistent finish.

• Wine Advocate: A blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, the 2016 Bertinga is a thickly extracted red with nice richness, dark fruit and tart cherry. Like some of the other new releases in this portfolio, there is a tart or sour element to the fruit that is very specific to the wines of Bertinga. That element gives an almost cool-climate or high-altitude character to this Tuscan blend. The extra acidity would pair with a local recipe of ricotta-filled and spinach-laced malfatti: a buttery vegetable gnocchi covered with grated Parmesan, to take advantage of this wine's crisp, mid to full-bodied weight.

• Wine Spectator: Extremely well crafted with tannins that are very resolved and polished. The palate is medium-to full-bodied. Dark fruit, salt and crushed-cement undertones. Extremely long and caressing. A blend of half merlot and half sangiovese.

Producer Information

The Bertinga winery is located on an exceptional hillside site in the area of Gaiole in Chianti. Despite being founded as recently as 2015, it has an established pedigree in the wine world. Bertinga is one of the best-known vineyards in the area; it was owned by Castello di Ama for many years and yielded wines of wonderful finesse and power, as well as drinkability and longevity. Bertinga crafts small quantities of terroir-driven single parcel / single vineyard wines, using 100% estate grown and organically farmed fruit out its 16.4 HA planted to Sangiovese and Merlot, both varietals having played the leading role in making the area famous. The picture is complemented by a world-class team led by the director Luca Vitiello, the production manager Elisa Ascani and the consulting oenologist Stephan Derenoncourt. To secure an enduring place in the history of Tuscan winemaking is Bertinga’s long term aspiration and the goal to share with all the partners worldwide.
