Red Wine: 2016 | Cloudburst | Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon treads a pleasant middle path between the 2014 (riper) and the 2015 (greener). Cassis and cocoa appear on the nose, followed by a crisp, medium-bodied, slightly grainy-textured wine in the mouth and a long, mouthwatering finish.

        • Wine Advocate: The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon treads a pleasant middle path between the 2014 (riper) and the 2015 (greener). Personally, I'd prefer more generosity and richness on the palate in the red wines, but there's no questioning the commitment to farming at this American-owned micro-estate.

        Producer Information

Cloudburst Wine is a Western Australian wine producer, located in the Margaret River wine region on the southwest coast. It produces a portfolio of Chardonnay, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon wines sourced from estate vineyards. The estate vines are planted close together to provide low yields of grapes with concentrated flavor compounds. Vines are dry-farmed and never require irrigation thanks to root systems that penetrate deep into the soil profile. At harvest, a hand-pick protects the integrity of the grapes. The Cloudburst wine portfolio is composed of three expressions of varietal Chardonnay, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvingon. In the winery, minimal intervention winemaking is practised with wild yeasts from the vineyard and winery employed for fermentation.
