      Detailed Description

Aromas of red and black fruits as well as dried flowers. Round and greedy, supple and velvety tannic structure, very fruity with a hint of sweet spices.

        Producer Information

Domaine des Ouled Thaleb is a Morrocan wine estate, located between Casablanca and Rabat, close to the city of Benslimane. Since establishment in 1927, it has guided the evolution of the local wine industry and today, is the oldest winery in the country. The estate has 202 hectares (500 acres) planted to vineyard with 19 different varieties of both wine and table grapes. The expansive estate is also used for large scale mixed farming by the Ouled Thaleb tribe for whom the property is owned and named after. The estate drew the attention of renowned Rhône winemaker Alain Graillot in the late 1990s when he was visiting on holidays. He saw the similarities in terroir to his vineyard in Crozes-Hermitage. A collaboration was soon formed with the Syrocco, a varietal Syrah (a play on the name of the grape and sirocco the North African wind) produced by Graillot at the estate. Prior to his passing in March 2022, Graillot entrusted the production of Syrocco over to head winemaker Stephane Marriot. Viticulture is made possible here by the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean as well as the elevation provided by the Atlas Mountains. Sea breezes and cool night-time temperatures allow grapes to retain acidity and prevent deterimental affects of heat exposure. Vineyards are planted on alluvial limestone-based soils.
