The 2017 Carla 6, La Massa's is fleshy, succulent and incredibly inviting. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, mint, blood orange and spice give the 2017 its racy feel. There is plenty of Sangiovese character. Chalk, cedar, spice and dried flowers convey energy and vibrancy. Beautiful wine!

Grapes are sourced from the slightly higher plot of vines to the right of the main drive that descends to the Fattoria la Massa winery.

• James Suckling: Lots of ripe cherry with floral and citrus-rind undertones. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and a pretty finish of delicious berries and hints of sandalwood. Subtle and complex. Needs time to soften, but already a beauty.

La Massa is a leading wine producer in Tuscany. It is located in the hills of Panzano in the Chianti Classico region, but specializes in the production of Super Tuscan Toscana IGT wines from Sangiovese and Bordeaux grape varieties. The 45-hectare (110-acre) estate covers land ranging from 315 to 460 meters (1030-1510ft) above sea level. 27ha (67 acres) of this is dedicated to vines. The vineyards are complex and varied, featuring clay schist, siliceous limestone, sandstone, and calcareous marl. They are planted to the classic Tuscan variety Sangiovese as well as Bordeaux varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
