Detailed Description
Detailed Description
An oaky nose offers up mild notes of brine, apple and minerals, while this feels chunky and resiny. Oak is primary on the flavor profile, which includes clove, cinnamon and grainy spice but not much overt fruit. Woodiness remains at the fore of a pulpy finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The 2020 G Lot Chardonnay comes from a warmer year when they picked 20 days earlier than usual. It fermented in French barrels where it matured for eight months. It has a very balsamic profile, it’s still very young and the ripeness is contained, similar to the 2019 I tasted next to it. It’s creamy and floral, with good freshness and a compact mouthfeel.
- James Suckling: Attractive aromas of white peach, dried mango, cream, smoked almond and flint. It’s medium-to full-bodied with crisp acidity. Deliciously ripe and creamy with vanilla and custard notes on the finish. Tangy at the end.
Producer Information
Luca is an Argentian wine producer, located in the Mendoza Valley. It works with small family owned vineyards to produce a collection of premium wines sourced from old vines. The flagship Old Vine Malbec is sourced from multiple sites throughout the Uco Valley in La Consulta and Gualtallary. These vines average 50 years of age meaning they produce low yields of grapes with concentrated flavor compounds. After fermentation, the wine is barrel-aged for 12 months in 30 percent new and 70 percent second used French oak. It will happily cellar for over a decade. The Laborde Double Select is a varietal Syrah, sourced from what is likely to be South America's oldest Syrah vines planted in the 1950s. Other notable wines in the collection include a duo of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir sourced from the highest vineyards in the foothills of the Andes at 1524 meters (5000 feet) of elevation. The company was founded by Laura Cartena, the fourth generation of the Catena Zapata family in 1999. Luca is named after her first born son.
