      Producer Information

Kellerei St. Michael-Eppan is an Italian wine producer situated in the Alto Adige region. It is a cooperative of 340 winemakers who cultivate approximately 380 hectares (939 acres) of vineyards primarily planted on the southeast-facing slopes of the Mendel Massif in Eppan. The company was founded in 1907 with just 27 winegrowers. Today, St. Michael-Eppan is considerably larger, and produces four wine ranges: Appius, Sanct Valentin, Selection and Classic. The Sanct Valentin wine range launched in 1986 with a range of high-quality wines made of Ruländer (Pinot Gris), Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay. It now makes St. Michael-Eppan's flagship wine, a varietal Sauvignon Blanc produced from vines ranging between 10-28 years old. Once harvested, a majority are fermented in stainless steel tanks with the remaining fermented and aged in oak barrels. Kellerei St. Michael-Eppan has now built on this success with the release of Appius in 2011. This white wine is a blend dominated by Sauvignon Blanc, with smaller quantities of Chardonnay and Pinot Gris. After fermentation, it is aged on its lees in oak barriques for one year, followed by three years in stainless steel tanks. More broadly, Kellerei St. Michael-Eppan specializes in white grape varieties including Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Gewürztraminer, as well as red grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Lagrein and Schiava.
