Producer Information
B.R. Cohn is a California wine producer located in Sonoma Valley. The winery was established in 1984 by Bruce Cohn, a music industry veteran who managed rock band The Doobie Brothers for 45 years. It produces a full range of wines from Sonoma Valley and its surrounding AVAs, from famous regional varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It also makes wines from vineyards as far north as Potter Valley in Mendocino, to San Luis Obispo in the south. A decade before producing his own wines, Cohn successfully grew and sold grapes from his Glen Ellen property, on the Olive Hill Estate. During this time, he was mentored by Charlie Wagner of Caymus Vineyards. When Cohn decided to produce his own wines in 1984, Wagner permitted him to use Caymus' trademarked "Special Selection" moniker on top lots from the Olive Hill Estate. Cohn's first wines were produced by notable winemakers including Helen Turley, Merry Edwards and Steve MacRostie. Today, Cohn produces wines from estate-owned vineyards as well as from sourced fruit, much of it from notable vineyards like Sangiacomo Vineyard in Carneros, Herrick Vineyard in Russian River Valley and Pauli Ranch in Mendocino County. The top wine, the Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon, is produced only in worthy vintages from the estate's best hillside vineyard blocks. Although primarily a wine producer, B.R. Cohn is also well-known for its olive oil and live music. The estate has been producing a selection of olive oils and wine vinegars since 1990, and has hosted the annual Sonoma Music Festival at its Olive Hill Estate since 1987 until its sale to Vintage Wine Estates in 2015.
