The Octomore Series 16.2 is super-heavily peated (101.4 ppm) malt from Islay grown Scottish Mainland Concerto barley, aged five years in a combination of oloroso sherry and Bordeaux wine casks, then finished in Madeira and Portuguese Moscatel casks. It delivers intense smoke layered with rich fruit, roasted nuts, and wine-cask sweetness.

Nose: Camp-fire smoke balanced by honeyed malt, caramelised sugar, dried figs, roasted almond and subtle seaside salinity.

Palate: Peat smoke hits first—then waves of red-berry compote, dark chocolate, toasted nuts, vanilla oak and subtle wine-barrel tannin.

Finish: Long, warming and evolving. Dry oak tannin, lingering sweet smoke, dried stone fruit and a final whisper of salted caramel.

Distillery Information

Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay has long been known for its experimental and terroir-driven whisky-making. The Octomore line pushes the boundaries of peat levels, barley provenance, and cask finishing. For Series 16 the distillery again challenged convention, using barley from the Scottish mainland malted to extreme PPM and finishing in wine and fortified wine casks to create dramatic complexity in just five years of ageing. The distillery emphasizes that everything — from malting to maturation to bottling — takes place in Scotland, under rigorous craft standards (un-chill-filtered, no added colour). This bottle exemplifies Bruichladdich’s philosophy of bold innovation rooted in island tradition.
