      Detailed Description

Domaine Adrien Belland was originally established by Adrien Belland, before his son took over in 1996 following his retirement. This release is the 1990 vintage of their ‘Les Grèves’, a climat of the Corton Grand Cru appellation within the commune of Aloxe-Corton. It’s a beautifully complex wine, filled with red fruits, floral notes, forest floor and a hint of truffle.

        Reviews:

        • Burghound: No bricking at all. The moderately expressive nose is still quite fresh and while ripe, displays none of the somewhat green character of certain '90s along with plenty of earth and game character that can also be found on the rich, full and very serious broad-shouldered flavors that culminate in a powerful, persistent and notably austere finish. This is a somber old school burg that is still on the way up as it is very much fashioned in a "take no prisoners" style that manages to remain impeccably well balanced despite the considerable size and weight. In short, patience required.

        Producer Information

Domaine Adrien Belland, or, as is it now known, Domaine Jean-Claude Belland, was originally founded by Adrien Belland, before his son took over in 1996 following his retirement. Philippe Cheron joined the ranks in 2006 as manager and winemaker, and soon after Domaine Belland’s wines started matching the quality of their grand cru vineyard holdings. These holdings can range from Santenay to Chambertin, and include a large amount of Corton Grand Crus, including Clos de la Vigne au Saint, Perrieres and Graves. However the optimum parcels are the Corton Charlemagne and Chambertin, both around the size of a third of a hectare. In October 2009, the Belland estate in Santenay was sold, and much of it was parcellated and spread around several different acquisitions.Belland wines tend to be very fruity on the palate with a long lingering finish, accompanied by a tremendously spicy nose, and the best of the grand cru wines require several years of patience to fully bring out their complexities.
