      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: The outstanding 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon, produced from an extremely small crop, is an example of what the Napa Cabernet Sauvignon producers are jokingly saying is "another fine wine from a bad vintage." A rich, full-bodied, dense effort on a fast evolutionary track, the 1998 is loaded with chocolatey, black cherry, and cassis fruit, an open-knit, sexy, expansive texture, outstanding concentration and purity, low acidity, and a fat, chewy finish.
      • James Suckling: Dark and ripe, with chewy tannins wrapped around a solid core of earthy currant, mineral, sage, tobacco and blackberry.

      Producer Information

Seavey Vineyard is a wine producer based in St Helena, in California's Napa Valley. The estate is most recognized for its portfolio of Cabernet Sauvignon wines, but it is also known for its small selection of varietal wines made from Chardonnay and Merlot. The estate dates back to the late 1800s, when it was founded by Charles Volper and Georges Crochat. The estate's 158 hectares (143 acres) of vineyards were abandoned upon their deaths in 1892, and converted into ranch land. In 1979, the vineyards were revived with the arrival of William and Mary Seavey. After converting the original stone dairy to a winery in 1989, the Seavey Vineyard estate released its inaugural vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay the following year. The flagship of the Seavey wine portfolio is the Founder's Reserve, a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a single vineyard within the estate. Each block of this vineyard is vinified separately in the winery. It spends 20 months barrel-aging in up to 70-percent new French oak prior to bottling and it will happily cellar for over a decade. The remaining portfolio is sourced entirely from the estate from Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vineyards. The Seavey library release includes cellar-aged varietals dating back to the inaugural vintage in 1990. Production totals approximately 3000 cases each vintage.
