Producer: Marchand-Tawse

Vintage: 1999

Size: 750ml

ABV: 13%

Varietal: Pinot Noir

    Country/Region: France, Burgundy

      Detailed Description

Anise, spice and intense Gevrey earth notes all combine with wild, pungent pinot fruit. Sweet, dense and almost thick and while this is quite concentrated and tannic, it appears that the gentler pressing has modulated what can sometimes be excessively tannic wines from this vineyard.

        Producer Information

(Maison) Marchand-Tawse is a leading Burgundian negociant and domaine (Domaine Tawse) based in Beaune, producing a wide range of wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. These range from regional Bourgogne wines to those at the Grand Cru level. The company, which was formed in 2010, is a joint venture between Moray Tawse of Tawse Winery in Ontario and Quebec-born winemaker Pascal Marchand, formerly of the top Domaines Comte Armand and la Vougeraie. It initially focussed entirely on negociant releases from bought-in fruit and wine, The extensive portfolio now also includes a number of wines from estate-owned parcels. Branding of the wines can vary depending on vintage. Some wines from Pascal Marchand's personal portfolio were brought under the Marchand-Tawse umbrella while retaining his name only on the main label. Other estate wines came out of the purchase of Domaine Maume in 2011. For a time the operation continued to produce this range (including four different Grands Crus) with a label combining Maume and Marchand-Tawse branding. Please note that older (pre-Marchand-Tawse) vintages of Domaine Maume are included here. The estate-grown wines are now labelled as Domaine Tawse. More recent negociant wine labels have "Marchand-Tawse par Pascal Marchand". Some appellations have been appeared in both the negociant and estate ranges, though usually extra attempts are made in the wine name to distinguish them. For example there is a Marchand-Tawse par Pascal Marchand Gevrey-Chambertin, and a Domaine Tawse estate-grown counterpart with the suffix "Village".
