        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: The La Tache 2010 was picked between 26th and 27th September at a measly 21hl/ha. Comparing it directly against the Romanee-Conti, the first impression is that the latter clearly has great clarity and delineation. You can tell that this is going to be a rich, generous nose and of all the crus in 2010, this bears the most semblance to the 2009. Scents of wild strawberry, raspberry coulis, peach skin and candied around peel abound. Monitoring this La Tache over ten to fifteen minutes, at unveils greater clarity in the glass with hints of smoke and sous-bois. The palate is medium-bodied with a silky smooth texture. It is immensely pure and refined with a caressing texture, a little more plush than the Romanee St. Vivant. It is a deceptive wine: straightforward in the first half but revealing much more terroir expression and mineralite in the second.
        • Burghound: An ultra-pure, cool and remarkably elegant mix of wonderfully spicy, red and blue pinot fruit, red currant and wild red berries that are openly floral in character. The overtly stony flavors are shaped by notably firm yet extremely fine tannins and while there is ample power and vibrancy, the palate feel is all silk and satin. To be sure, this is a big wine with impressive concentration but 2010 is a vintage for LT of refinement and polish if not exactly finesse. Even so, it's still going to require some 20 to 25 years of cellar time before it reaches its full majority but when it does, it will be considered one of the all-time great vintages for this incredibly storied wine.

        Producer Information

Domaine de la RomanĂ©e-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy's best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-RomanĂ©e, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the CĂŽte d'Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous RomanĂ©e-Conti vineyard, and on average is the most expensive wine in the world. The domaine predominately produces Pinot Noir-based wines from 28 hectares (69 acres) of grand cru vineyard. Alongside RomanĂ©e-Conti are La TĂąche, RomanĂ©e-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg in Vosne-RomanĂ©e; plus Échezeaux and Grands Échezeaux bottlings. Fruit from Corton-Bressandes, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Renardes is combined in a single Corton Grand Cru red. There are three white (Chardonnay) wines made. Only one of these, the Montrachet is made widely avilable. A BĂątard-Montrachet and a Bourgogne Hautes CĂŽtes de Nuits are not publically distributed. Of course, La RomanĂ©e-Conti is the domaine's most famous asset, and the amount of wine made from less than 2ha (5 acres) of land amounts to just 6000 bottles a year. The vineyard has a long history, dating back to the Abbey of Saint-Vivant in the 13th Century. It took on the RomanĂ©e name in 1631, and the Conti in 1760.Today, DRC is owned in part by the de Villaine family and in part by the Leroy family. Aubert de Villaine is the figurehead of the company now – although it was famously run by Lalou Bize-Leroy for a time, until a dispute saw her ousted from control.
